Dealership Activities

Mercedes-Benz Hatfield

Mercedes-Benz Hatfield has an extensive community service programme in Pretoria. The dealership does more than just hand out donations, they have initiated projects that empower communities to generate income for themselves.

The following is a summary of their projects in the Mamelodi area:
  • The Mamelodi Itsoseng Feeding Scheme. The dealership has been supporting this project since May 2000 where more than 50 families from disadvantaged communities benefit from the monthly distribution of food parcels.
  • Water pipes were laid in community food gardens to help with the irrigation and the dealership provides a supply of seeds and offer incentives for those individuals who maintain their gardens.
  • Wool and beads are provided to a group of ladies who make jewellery and bathroom accessories which are sold to generate an income for themselves.
  • The dealership assisted in establishing a crèche for the children in the area so that their parents can work in the food gardens all day. They also sponsor meals provided for the kids.
    Other projects include:
  • The People Upliftment Project (PopUp) which is a community service organisation opposite the central prison in Pretoria where the dealership has sponsored a bakkie to transport goods for the soup kitchen and medical clinic.
  • The Black Tie Ensemble, a classical vocal ensemble consisting of qualified singers from diverse cultural backgrounds. The dealership sponsors the Mercedes-Benz Vito that the group travels in to their various engagements.

Inyanga Motors Empangeni

Inyanga Motors in Empangeni has for a long time been supporting various community organisations their immediate community. Some of their projects include:
  • Inkululeko Babies Home, situated in Vryheid, is a home for HIV /AIDS infected and affected babies who are orphaned, abandoned or abused. Inyanga Motors donates R75 to the Home, for every new and used vehicle sold in Empangeni and Vryheid.
  • Bay Hospital – The dealership takes a group of patients – who would otherwise not have an opportunity to visit a game reserve – on an excursion to the Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Park four times a year. These groups are mainly handicapped adults and children suffering from cancer and sugar diabetes.
  • Inyanga Motors’ new sponsorship is Bevies Care Centre in Gingindlovu. Ninety of the 120 staff members who live in Empangeni have pledged to have a monthly amount deducted off their salaries to donate to the Care Centre. Inyanga matches that figure. The total amount covers more than half of the organizations monthly expenditure.
  • Louis Hildebrandt Children’s Home – This orphanage has relocated to Volksrust from Pongola and houses about 90 children. Inyanga Motors has donated various items collected by staff, such as clothing, cleaning materials and food to donate to the home.

Executive message

At Mercedes-Benz South Africa we are extremely proud of our latest certification as a BBBEE Level 4 contributor. While we have led the industry overall from the outset, and remain the leader in this respect, we are happy to share this rating now with two other manufacturers.
However, MBSA still sets the benchmark in the most strategic areas of Management Control, Employment Equity and Skills Development.
Our focus on transformation started long before legislation demanded it and therefore we have more experience to implement transformation in such a way to  best benefit all our stakeholders and interest groups.
We believe in challenging ourselves daily to improve on this, wherever we can and in any manner possible.

Dr Hansgeorg Niefer, CEO of MBSA.
